City of Somerville, Massachusetts City Council Confirmation of Appointments and Personnel Matters Committee Meeting Minutes 6:30 PM Wednesday, March 5, 2025 This meeting was held via Zoom and was called to order by Chair Ewen-Campen at 6:30 pm and adjourned at 6:40 pm on a roll call vote of 4 in favor (Councilors Pineda Neufeld, Clingan, McLaughlin, Ewen-Campen), 0 opposed, and 1 absent (Councilor Sait). Councilor Clingan joined the meeting at 6:35 pm. Others present: Charles Breen - Fire Chief, Madalyn Letellier - Legislative Services Manager. Roll Call Ward Three City Councilor Ben Ewen-Campen, Ward One City Councilor Matthew McLaughlin and Ward Seven City Councilor Judy Pineda Neufeld Present: Ward Five City Councilor Naima Sait and Ward Four City Councilor Jesse Clingan Absent: Approval of the Minutes of the Confirmation of Appointments and Personnel Matters Committee Meeting of February 5, 2025. Committee Minutes (ID # 25-0178) ACCEPTED RESULT: Ward Three City Councilor Ewen-Campen, Ward One City Councilor McLaughlin, Ward Four City Councilor Clingan and Ward Seven City Councilor Pineda Neufeld AYE: Ward Five City Councilor Sait ABSENT: Requesting confirmation of the promotion of Christopher Galvin to the position of Fire Lieutenant. Mayor's Request (ID # 25-0220) Chief Breen introduced the candidate, Mr. Galvin, who has been a member of the fire department since 2015. Mr. Galvin thanked the committee for taking the time to meet and is excited about the opportunity to continue to serve Somerville. Confirmation of Appointments and Personnel Matters Committee Meeting Minutes March 5, 2025 Requesting confirmation of the promotion of Andrew Tkaczuk to the position of Fire Lieutenant. Mayor's Request (ID # 25-0219) Chief Breen introduced the candidate, Mr. Tkaczuk, who has been a member of the fire department since 2016. Mr. Tkaczuk also expressed thanks to the committee and enjoys the work he does. RECOMMENDED TO BE APPROVED RESULT: Ward Three City Councilor Ewen-Campen, Ward One City Councilor McLaughlin and Ward Seven City Councilor Pineda Neufeld AYE: Ward Five City Councilor Sait and Ward Four City Councilor Clingan ABSENT: Requesting confirmation of the promotion of Thomas Bellini to the position of Fire Captain. Mayor's Request (ID # 25-0218) Chief Breen introduced the candidate, Mr. Bellini, who has been a member of the fire department since 2012 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2020. Mr. Bellini expressed his gratefulness to be here this evening. Chair Ewen-Campen asked what Mr. Bellini looks forward to the most in this role and he shared he has been acting in this role for some time and is excited to welcome the opportunity to have more influence and responsibility and work with the Chief and Staff in a greater capacity.
