Connolly Alderman At Large Absent Also present: Goran Smiljic - ISD, Omar Boukili - Mayor's Office Approval of the Minutes of Wednesday, September 17, 2014 RESULT: APPROVED 197223 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) direct the owner of 47 Webster Avenue to clear the rear lot of all overgrowth and debris and bait the property if evidence of rodent activity is found.: RESULT: WORK COMPLETED 198190 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inspect the property and field around 11 Austin Street for rodents.: Mr. Smiljic reported the assigned inspector was unable to see any evidence of rodent activity from his vantage point. Alderman McLaughlin pointed out that rodents have been seen on a patch of state owned green space behind this property. Mr. Smiljic will contact the homeowner to attempt to gain access to the state property. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 198373 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inspect the 33 Franklin Street area for signs of rodent activity, and bait where needed.: The sewer at this location is scheduled to be baited on May 28th. RESULT: WORK COMPLETED

Committee Meeting May 27, 2015 Rodent Issues Special Committee Page 2 of 2 Printed 5/28/2015 198497 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) bait the area around 74 Gilman Street for rodents.: This location will be baited on May 28th and it is within the area where the new rodent population control program is being tested. RESULT: WORK COMPLETED 198973 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inspect the state streets off Broadway for rodents, and bait accordingly.: Mr. Smiljic reported that 7 locations have been baited in the area. RESULT: WORK COMPLETED 198191 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) contact the appropriate agencies to deal with rodent issues on state owned property citywide.: Chairman Heuston would like a higher level person at the state contacted about this item, since it involves several state properties. Mr. Boukili stated that the Administration would send communications to the DOT and the DCR. RESULT: WORK COMPLETED 198374 - That the Director of SPCD communicate with the appropriate state agency to address the rodent issues on, and the underutilization of, the land behind 11 Austin Street and I-93.: Mr. Smiljic told the committee that the state is unwilling to address the issue. ISD will attempt to gain access to the property to inspect it and to take photos of any rodent activity. A communication will then be sent to the state requesting that the property be cleaned and baited. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 199110 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) inspect the General Insulation building on Cross Street East for rodents and bait accordingly.: This property was baited on April 19th and is scheduled to be baited again on May 28th. Chairman Heuston asked that the owner of the property - Stop & Shop - be contacted to bait the property and to continue to do so, as this property will be turned over to the city in the near future. Chairman Heuston requested that an updated map of rodent sightings be sent to all aldermen, along with any other relevant data, (e.g., overlay maps of dumpster locations and tickets issued). Mr. Smiljic spoke about methods of educating people about rodent control and he will follow up with the Health Department for any educational materials. RESULT: WORK COMPLETED
