197626: That the City Solicitor appear before this Board's Committee on Confirmation of
Appointments to discuss the hiring of a Director of Recreation and Youth.
The committee discussed the process for hiring/approving a Recreation Director. Chairman
Rossetti said that she does not want to take power away from the Recreation Commission and
Alderman McLaughlin stated that he recalled previous action that took the authority away from
the Commission and left it with the Board of Aldermen, so that there would not be two
approving authorities. Mr. Boukili clarified the matter by informing the members that, with the
proposed ordinance, the Commission is not the appointing authority and that the BOA would

confirm the appointment. Alderman White suggested that the Recreation Commission be
allowed to weigh in on the matter and he recommended holding a public hearing on the issue.
Alderman Niedergang expressed concern about the delay that a public hearing would cause.
