CITY OF SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY KATJANA BALLANTYNE MAYOR DAVID B. GOODRIDGE 2015 CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER Somerville City Hall 93 Highland Avenue, Somerville Massachusetts 02143 [phone removed] x3266 Office dgoodridge@somervillema.gov (781)254-9198 Cell To: City Council From: David Goodridge, CIO Re: eRate Appropriation Date: November 08, 2022 The project will replace all aged SPS network equipment with supported non end of life equipment at all schools except Somerville High School. This will bring our network infrastructure in line with the entirety of network equipment across the whole city. There are no additional costs or revenues associated with this equipment. Operationally, it allows a focus on similar equipment which helps with cybersecurity risk and operational efficiency by centralizing the management of the infrastructure. The equipment will upgrade the SPS network infrastructure in line with the municipal network. This allows for an up to date, consistent, and resilient network design that will allow for significant bandwidth increases for SPS. The upgrade enhances safety as more network services are added such as building controls, access control, cameras, and lighting. There are federal mandates on cybersecurity as well. This is a fiscally responsible project as we take advantage of eRate funding which will cover about half of the cost of the project. With this consistent design, it will allow us to utilize another ARPA project to allow configuration and monitoring of all network equipment across the entire city network. Useful life is dependent on the pace of technology. We envision this equipment to be in place for at least 5-7 years. Cost based on proposal submissions from the eRate bidding process. eRate eligible total is $704,360.44. eRate 80% responsibility total = $563,488.35. eRate 20% City responsibility total = $140,872.09. Vendor selected proposal total for all school equipment = $988,438.45. Total for this project = Difference between vendor total and eRate eligible total = $284,078.01 PLUS eRate City 20% = $140,872.09. Project Final Total = $424,950.10.
