McWatters Chair Present Matthew McLaughlin Vice Chair Present Tony Lafuente Ward Four Alderman Present Others present: Cheryl Horan - Green Cab, Karen Lima - Green Cab, Tim Snyder - Mayor’s Office, Rositha Durham - Clerk of Committees The meeting took place in the Committee Room and was called to order at 6:00 PM by Alderman McWatters and adjourned at 6:15 PM. Document List: None Approval of the March 29, 2016 Minutes RESULT: ACCEPTED 201267: Green Cab requesting approval of an ordinance to require that taxicabs accept credit cards for fare payment, that taxicabs be also licensed as livery vehicles, and that street hails and taxi stands be permitted only for taxis. Ms. Horan and Ms. Lima explained that they would like to add to the ordinance that taxis may accept credit cards. The ordinance will make it more enforceable. The recommended language for the ordinance was taken directly from the Boston ordinance. The request to be licensed as livery vehicles will give the taxis a dual license and help get disabled passengers from the MBTA. This dual license requires additional insurance in order to secure a contract with the MBTA. Cambridge already has this in their ordinance. The provision would allow the taxis to have livery plates and pick up passengers at the airport. There are currently 98 medallions in the city with 48 or 49 owned by Green Cab. This will help Green Cab compete with ride sharing without jeopardizing the medallions. Mr. Snyder will check with the solicitor's office on this request. The item was approved with the condition that it be reviewed by the City Solicitor’s Office.
