Finance Committee Page 2 of 2 Printed 6/14/2016 2. FY-17 departmental budget review Mr. Mastrobuoni distributed corrections to the proposed budget and supplemental materials for OSE. Mr. Roche distributed information on new and vacant positions contained in the proposed budget. School Department: School Superintendent Mary Skipper presented the School Department’s FY-17 budget and outlined the School Committee’s goals. She explained the process used to develop the budget and reported that the FY-17 budget is $65,420,081 and is 4.65% higher than last year’s budget. Alderman White asked that some demographic and enrollment data be included in the future. He also asked that data on the number of students leaving school and the reasons why also be provided. Executive: Mr. Snyder presented the department’s budget and spoke about a new Legislative Liaison position. Clerks: Mr. Snyder presented the department’s budget and spoke about a change of title for one of the clerk positions. SomerStat: Ms. Stewart presented the department’s budget. Elections: Mr. Salerno presented the department’s budget. The design of the census has been updated. All CF reports under the department’s domain are being posted online. Arts Council: Mr. Jenkins explained that some positions have been reassigned from other departments to the Arts Council. Sustainability and Energy: Mr. Sellers-Garcia presented the department’s budget request and spoke about many of the programs undertaken by OSE. City Clerk: Mr. Long spoke presented his department’s budget. The city’s archives will be relocated to the Edgerly School building and will have a reading room for the public. Requests for information: • Alderman White requested data (from the Personnel Department) for new positions for the past 10 years. • Alderman Ballantyne requested that the Personnel Department provide the amount of lag money for unfilled positions listed on the New & Vacant Positions handout. • Alderman Heuston requested the names of personnel in the positions marked “filled” on the New & Vacant Positions handout. 3.
