The meeting took place in the Committee Room and was called to order at 6:30 PM by Alderman Sullivan and adjourned at 7:30 PM. Approval of the May 18, 2016 Minutes RESULT: ACCEPTED Public Hearing: 201564 - New Garage License, DM Auto Services, 45 Webster Ave Petitioner wants to split the license from the body shop. Alderman Heuston commented that the space is very small for 2 businesses and that she has heard from neighbors about too many cars on the sidewalk. Public Hearing: 201574 - New Used Car Dealer License Class 2, CM Auto Sales, 39 Webster Ave The applicant/owner had a license at Joy Street for 9 years and wants to transfer it to the Webster Avenue location. Residents Mr. & Mrs. Gordon appeared before the committee and talked about all the cars in the area and heavy traffic. According to Mr. Long, the applicant cannot transfer a used car dealer license. Public Hearing: 201734 - New Garage License, JN Phillips Auto Glass, 47 Webster Ave This business was originally in Cambridge and moved to Somerville. The company recycles all of the glass and maintains a clean work environment. The business has been locally owned since 1946. Public Hearing: 201735 - New Garage License, Ball Sq Dialysis Clinic, 643 Broadway There were no speakers on this item.

RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 201025: That the Supervisor of Inspectional Services issue fines to Alewife Automotive, 395 Alewife Brook Parkway, for each day that they exceed their permitted number of vehicles. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 201548: Public Event Permit, Blue Point Brewing Company Boatyard Bash, Buena Vista Parking Lot, Aug 27, 7AM-10PM. RESULT: WITHDRAWN 201564: New Garage License, DM Auto Services, 45 Webster Ave, for mechanical repairs, 10 autos inside, 2 outside. Alderman Heuston asked that ISD perform a full inspection of the property before the committee makes a decision on this request. Mr. Proakis would like to take some time to look into the short/long term planning of the property with economic development. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 201574: New Used Car Dealer License Class 2, CM Auto Sales, 39 Webster Ave, 35 cars outside, none inside. Alderman Heuston instructed the owner to take down the flags that are obstructing the view for pedestrians and cars and remove some of the cars off the lot. The applicant is operating the on the property without a license. ISD will survey the lot and the committee will call the owner back in a month. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 201587: New Mobile Food Vendor, Clover Fast Food, operating at Davis Sq Thu-Fri 4- 10PM (Tufts and Union Sq locations Approved via #201213). The Director of Food Operations for Clover Fast Food spoke on this request. The company operates several food trucks around Boston. Alderman Davis is very supportive of the truck coming to Davis Square. He thinks that the company’s business model is very good, however, he has concerns about this request and would like the city’s Planning and Economic Development departments to figure out the best way to bring the truck into Davis Square. Alderman at large Jack Connolly, also lives and works in Davis Square.
Licenses and Permits Committee Page 3 of 3 Printed 7/14/2016 Alderman Connolly’s motion, that the Traffic and Parking Department survey locations and examine any safety concerns associated with granting a mobile food vendor license to Clover Fast Food to operate in Davis Square, and report its findings to the committee, was approved. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 201613: That the Supervisor of Inspectional Services inspect the used car lot at 39 Webster Avenue and determine the proper number of cars that the lot can accommodate. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 201733: Renewing Garage License, Inman Collision Center, 45 Webster Ave. Attorney Anne Vigorto, representing the petitioner, told the committee that the applicant is not currently operating the business, but plans to return for auto body repairs, soon. The original request was for 13 vehicles inside and 4 outside. That is being amended to 6 vehicles inside and 3 outside. Alderman Heuston asked Mr. Proakis and the city’s Economic Development department to review this space before deciding on the request for renewal. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 201734: New Garage License, JN Phillips Auto Glass, 47 Webster Ave, 5 autos inside, 3 outside. Alderman Heuston informed the applicant the business does not have a license to operate at the current location. The item will remain in committee, awaiting comments from the city’s Economic Development department on on potential terms and conditions of the area. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 201735: New Garage License, Ball Sq Dialysis Clinic, 643 Broadway, 25 autos inside, 25 outside. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE
