The meeting took place in the Committee Room and was called to order at 6:02 PM by
Alderman Heuston and adjourned at 6:29 PM.
Approval of the June 28, 2016 Minutes
RESULT:

201667: Requesting the appointment of Payton Corbett to the Fire Department Reserve
List.
There was a discussion about the reserve list process and Mr. Roche stated that, at the present time, there
are 2 veterans holds and 1 medical hold. Mr. Corbett was interviewed for his appointment to the Fire
Department Reserve List.
RESULT:
APPROVED
201933: Requesting approval of an exemption for Annie Schapira, a municipal employee,
under MGL c268A s20(b).
Ms. Schapira currectly works as a librarian in the city's schools and will also now be working in the
Public Library. Mr. Snyder distributed Ms. Schapira's disclosure documents.

201934: Requesting the appointment of Michael Lapiana to the position of Animal Control
Officer in the Police Department.

202010: Requesting the appointment of Michael Bertino as Treasurer/Collector of Taxes.
Mr. Bertino discussed his banking background and his previous municipal employment. Mr. Bean spoke
highly of Mr. Bertino. Alderman Rossetti asked Mr. Bertino about his history in the mortgage industry,
his experience with direct reports and his training and inquired why this position does not require a
masters degree. Alderman Rossetti asked for a copy of the job description. Members were told that
approximately 50 individuals applied for the position and that 3 were interviewed. Alderman Heuston
asked Mr. Bertino about his intention to process loans on a part-time basis and mentioned conflict of
interest laws.
