PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Friends of the Community Growing Center will procure landscape architect and project
management services to complete construction documents for the re-design of the Center funded by
the CPA in FY15.
ELIGIBILITY
Open space/recreation land: This project will contribute to the rehabilitation of outdoor recreation
lands.
RECOMMENDED FUNDING
On March 22, 2017 by a vote of 6-0 the Community Preservation Committee recommended
appropriating $33,176 for this project from the open space and recreation land reserve budget to the
control of the Friends of the Community Growing Center for the overall purposes summarized in this
document.

ALIGNMENT WITH FY17 COMMUNITY PRESERVATION PLAN
The Community Preservation Plan seeks to rehabilitate existing recreational land according to need and
expand urban agriculture opportunities.

FUNDING CONDITIONS
1. Work closely with City of Somerville Parks and Open Space, Health and Human Services, and
Inspectional Services Departments to ensure final construction documents and bid specifications
are in alignment with City regulations and that they receive written approval of the City, as
required by the license.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
The goal of this project is to lay the groundwork for re-establishing the Growing Center as a volunteer
managed urban hub, in close proximity to Union Square.
An indicator of success will be the completion of stamped construction documents and detailed bid
specifications.
