CURTATONE MAYOR COMMUNITY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE FY17 FUNDING RECOMMENDATION FOR DESIGN PLANS FOR REVITALIZATION OF HENRY HANSEN PARK, CITY OF SOMERVILLE VETERANS’ SERVICES PROJECT DESCRIPTION The City of Somerville will procure design services for the revitalization of Henry Hansen Park. Henry Hansen was a Somerville resident who raised the first American flag at Iwo Jima during World War II. ELIGIBILITY Open space/recreation land: This project will rehabilitate outdoor recreation land RECOMMENDED FUNDING On April 26, 2017, by a vote of 8-0, the Community Preservation Committee recommended appropriating $49,200 for this project from the open space and recreation land reserve budget to the control of the City of Somerville for the overall purposes summarized in this document. Project Budget Expenses Amount Study $3,500 Soft costs $45,700 Construction $0 Total $49,200 Sources CPA open space/recreation land funds- requested $49,200 Other sources $0 Total $49,200 ALIGNMENT WITH FY17 COMMUNITY PRESERVATION PLAN The Community Preservation Plan prioritizes rehabilitating existing recreational land according to need. FUNDING CONDITIONS 1. Hold at least three public meetings and integrate feedback from the meetings into the final design MEASURES OF SUCCESS Goal: Present a more functional design of Hansen Park that will provide for the enjoyment and education of the citizens of Somerville. The success of the project will be measured by: • Complete design package that will continue to honor the memory of Henry O. Hansen. • Project completed on time and within budget.
