MEMORANDUM
TO:
Katjana Ballantyne, Mayor
FROM:

DATE:
12/5/2022
SUBJECT:
2022 CPC FINAL CANDIDATE
Over the past months, the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) Member Selection
Committee recruited applications for General Public members to serve on the CPC, and received
responses from three outstanding candidates who expressed interest in fulfilling this role. The
selection committee reviewed the applications, interviewed candidates, and as required in
Somerville’s CPA ordinance, the candidates’ interest statements were posted on the CPA web
page to invite public input on the selection.
The committee considered both professional and lived experience and a commitment to at least
one of the CPA program areas. They aimed to select a candidate who balances the current blend
of CPC members in terms of community representation, background, mission, and understanding
of the CPA program. Mr. Ryan Kiracofe was selected as the finalist for recommendation. Mr.
Kiracofe is a young professional who brings perspective that will be unique and valuable to the
CPC. Trained as an urban planner, Mr. Kiracofe works in the area of affordable housing
development and cares deeply about all three program areas. He has experience with public
meetings and community engagement, and is familiar with the Community Preservation Act
having been an applicant for funding for affordable housing projects in other communities.
The applications for the candidates are attached for reference. If approved by the City Council
Mr. Kiracofe will serve an initial term of three years and will have the opportunity to serve a
second three-year term.
