City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA 02143  [phone removed] x 2500 FAX [phone removed] CITY OF SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS Strategic Planning and Community Development KATJANA BALLANTYNE, MAYOR Office of the Executive Director MEMORANDUM TO: Katjana Ballantyne, Mayor FROM: Tom Galligani DATE: 12/5/2022 SUBJECT: 2022 CPC FINAL CANDIDATE Over the past months, the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) Member Selection Committee recruited applications for General Public members to serve on the CPC, and received responses from three outstanding candidates who expressed interest in fulfilling this role. The selection committee reviewed the applications, interviewed candidates, and as required in Somerville’s CPA ordinance, the candidates’ interest statements were posted on the CPA web page to invite public input on the selection. The committee considered both professional and lived experience and a commitment to at least one of the CPA program areas. They aimed to select a candidate who balances the current blend of CPC members in terms of community representation, background, mission, and understanding of the CPA program. Mr. Ryan Kiracofe was selected as the finalist for recommendation. Mr. Kiracofe is a young professional who brings perspective that will be unique and valuable to the CPC. Trained as an urban planner, Mr. Kiracofe works in the area of affordable housing development and cares deeply about all three program areas. He has experience with public meetings and community engagement, and is familiar with the Community Preservation Act having been an applicant for funding for affordable housing projects in other communities. The applications for the candidates are attached for reference. If approved by the City Council Mr. Kiracofe will serve an initial term of three years and will have the opportunity to serve a second three-year term.
