COMMUNITY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE FY18 FUNDING RECOMMENDATION FOR
DILBOY AUXILIARY REDESIGN, CITY OF SOMERVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project will renovate the soil profile at the existing natural grass auxiliary field space in the Dilboy
complex. Irrigation and lighting would also be added to the fields.
ELIGIBILITY
Recreational Land: The Dilboy Auxiliary fields provide land for active recreation in Somerville.
RECOMMENDED FUNDING- PRELIMINARY DISCUSSION
On March 28, 2018 by a vote of 6-0 the Community Preservation Committee recommended
appropriating $90,000 for this project from the open space/recreational land reserve budget to the
control of the City of Somerville Parks and Recreation Department for the overall purposes summarized
in this document.

ALIGNMENT WITH FY18 COMMUNITY PRESERVATION PLAN
The Community Preservation Plan prioritizes rehabilitating existing recreation land according to need
and supporting other City planning documents. The Athletic Fields Master Plan calls for improving the
functionality of the City’s existing fields and adding new fields to meet demand.

FUNDING CONDITIONS
1. Upon commencement of the Project and as appropriate, the City of Somerville agrees to post a
sign stating that the Project was funded through the City of Somerville’s Community
Preservation Act program.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
The goals of the project are to improve the fields for athletic competition and casual use and to
reconfigure the space to allow for the addition of another soccer field.
Success will be measured by the creation of a medium sized soccer field, contributing to the Athletic
Fields Master Plan.
