NOTE FROM THE CITY CLERK: On 6/14/18 I spoke to John O’Hara, Senior Insurance Examiner in the MA Division of Insurance ([phone removed]). He explained that Brain Arts’ liability insurance was valid, despite the fact that the carrier, Scottsdale Insurance Company, is not admitted in the state as an insurance carrier. He said that Scottsdale is a surplus carrier, and is registered as such with the Division, and reports to the Division. He said it’s not unusual for a young nonprofit organization to be unable to find coverage from an admitted insurance carrier, and the surplus carrier market offers a valid alternative. -John J.
