1 CITY OF SOMERVILLE ORDINANCE NO. 2018- In Board of Aldermen AN ORDINANCE REPLACING SECTION 5-32 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF SOMERVILLE Be it ordained by the Board of Alderman, in session assembled, that the provisions of Section 5-32 of Chapter 5, Article II, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Somerville are hereby stricken and replaced as follows: Sec. 5-32. - Fire department salaries. (a) The salaries and benefits of officers and members of the fire department shall be set by collective bargaining. (b) The salary of the chief engineer of the fire department shall be established in a contract negotiated with the candidate selected by the mayor. The appointment and the terms of such contract are subject to approval by the board of aldermen. The contract may not be subsequently amended without the approval of the board of aldermen. The length of such contract of chief engineer of the fire department shall be for a period of no longer than five years. Approved: President Board of Aldermen
