Sec. 5-32. - Fire department salaries.
(a)
The salary of the chief engineer of the fire department is hereby fixed at twice maximum salary of
a private, as such latter salary may be from time to time set. The salaries and benefits of all other officers
and members of the fire department shall be set by those established from time to time by agreement
pursuant to collective bargaining or in the absence of such agreement, shall be those established by the
most recently expired collective bargaining agreement.
(b)
The salary of the chief engineer of the fire department shall be established in a contract
negotiated with the candidate selected by the mayor. The appointment and the terms of such contract
are subject to approval by the board of aldermen. The contract may not be subsequently amended
without the approval of the board of aldermen. The length of such contract of chief engineer of the fire
department shall be for a period of no longer than five years.
