June 25, 2018 Somerville Community Preservation Act Committee c/o Kristen Stelljes Somerville Community Preservation Act Manager Dear Community Preservation Act Committee Members, I am writing to request the CPA Committee’s approval for a change in the scope of the CPA FY16 award to the Somerville Museum. The change in scope would include the purchase and installation of a new fire panel to replace the current one at a cost of $1,352. The Museum believes that there will be savings in the cost of the security equipment within the grant to allow for this purchase. The Security Committee of the Trustees of the Museum have been working with American Alarm (AA) in Arlington to test the security system as part of the CPA FY16 proposal. It is usual for a company like this to review both the security system and fire detection and alarm system at the same time, and this was done for the Museum. The testing of the fire alarm system was paid for by the Museum's operating funds. However, AA found the fire panel to be in urgent need of replacement and has given us a quote of $1,352 for both purchase and installation. The Somerville Museum is preparing a request to the CPA in 2019 for upgrades in the fire alarm system; however, the panel replacement cannot wait. Therefore, we ask that we be able to use any savings in the security system upgrade to put toward the cost of this fire alarm panel. Thank you for your consideration of this matter. It will help the Museum stay on track financially and keep everyone safe. Sincerely yours, Barbara Mangum President of the Trustees Somerville Museum
