DRAFT ORDINANCE CITY OF SOMERVILLE Ordinance No. 2018-_______ IN THE BOARD OF ALDERMAN: ________________, 2018 VOTER REGISTRATION ACCESSIBILITY Be it ordained by the Board of Alderman, in session assembled, that Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Somerville is hereby amended by adding the following new Section to require voter registration form accessibility to members of the public at various City buildings. Sec. . Voter Registration Accessibility (a) Purpose The ability for all citizens to participate in elections is a fundamental civil right and a central principle of our democracy. The purpose of this ordinance is to increase access to voter registration by making voter registration forms publicly available at additional City departments and buildings within the City of Somerville. (b) Availability of Voter Registration Forms (1) The Somerville Public Library shall make voter registration forms available in conspicuous locations at all branch libraries. (2) The Traffic and Parking Department shall make voter registration forms available in a conspicuous location in the public lobby of the Department. (3) Somerville City Hall shall make voter registration forms available in a conspicuous location in the public lobby of the building. APPROVED: President Board of Aldermen
