1 Vanessa Boukili From: Sent: Thursday, October 27, 2022 5:37 PM To: Vanessa Boukili Subject: Urban Forestry Advisory Committee Statement of Interest Attachments: Suput CV UFC OCT 2022.pdf Categories: APPLICATION Dear Vanessa,    Please accept my statement of interest to join the Urban Forestry Advisory Committee. As a longtime resident of  Somerville who is keenly interested in the health of our planet’s ecosystems, I find the goal of the committee, ‘to advise  the City on the management and maintenance of all trees and shrubs on public grounds and public ways,’ a  critical  component of the City’s plans to address climate change and an opportunity to address racial justice while being  an attractive way to support my community. I believe my experience makes me a solid candidate and would allow me to  be an active participant.     While not an arborist by any stretch of the imagination, I did study biology in college with a focus on ecology, before  settling on cellular biology, and then focusing on environmental policy in graduate school with a strong dose of urban  planning. While less acquainted with the specifics of urban forestry, I have experience walking the land on farms which  often include forests as an integral part of their operations. I have also planted and care for five trees in my yard. I spend  a good deal of time walking around the city looking at trees and would be happy with direction to do the same on behalf  of the committee. I have years of experience as a valued member of committees and collaborations in various capacities  – member, advisor, chair, etc. and am most interested in conversations and processes that create conditions for action.    Please reach out if you have any questions or find me a suitable candidate for the committee. You can reach me at  or call/text me at   I hope to hear from you regardless of your decision and am  curious about the terms for advisory committee members.     Sincerely,  Dorothy Suput
