Approval of the July 1, 2019 Minutes RESULT: ACCEPTED 208530: Requesting confirmation of the appointment of Daniel R. Dell'Isola to the position of Reserve Police Officer. Deputy Chief Stanford introduced the candidate. It was stated that the academy starts mid- October. The candidate is an active member in the National Guard and he is also a Public Safety Officer for Boston University. The candidate stated he was interested in public safety because both parents worked for the Middlesex Sheriff’s office and he had others that he admired who also worked in law enforcement. Mr. Dell’Isola explained that he loves the community policing aspect. He is also working at Simmons College and left because Boston University was separating from Boston Medical Center. His contract with the National Guards will end March 2020. The committee motioned to go into Executive Session and the candidate agreed to go in without legal counsel. No votes were taken in Executive Session.

Deputy Chief Stanford introduced the candidate. The candidate stated that his current position with the Corrections Department is very stressful. He’s learned how to de-escalate situations which he learned from working at Tufts Medical Center. He talked about baseline behaviors. The candidate stated he tries to treat everyone equally. Councilor-at-large Rossetti mentioned that she has family member that also works for Tufts and she has not discussed this matter with the family member. The candidate stated that it has been a lifelong goal to work in law enforcement. He was asked why he picked Somerville to be in law enforcement. The candidate stated that he likes the wide population, diversity here of income and ethnicity and embraces the challenge. He was asked his thoughts on “Black Lives Matter” and the candidate spoke about the disparity and sentencing seen every day in prisons as a corrections officer. The committee motioned to go into Executive Session and the candidate agreed to go in without legal counsel. No votes were taken in Executive Session. RESULT: APPROVED
