The meeting was held in the Committee Room and was called to order at 6:36 pm by Chairman Scott and adjourned at 7:36 pm. Approval of the September 23, 2019 Minutes RESULT: ACCEPTED 208172: Requesting confirmation of the appointment of Sarah Sweeting to the Urban Forestry Committee. Dr. Boukili introduced the first student committee member who applied and accepted for the position. Ms. Sweeting knows a lot about the process already, since her father was a school committee member. She has already been attending some of the meetings for the urban forestry. Ms. Sweeting stated she would like environmental justice and wants to spread the love for trees. RESULT: APPROVED 208427: Requesting confirmation of the appointment of Deborah Lormeus to the Commission for Women. Mr. Hosman introduced Ms. Lormeus who has been volunteering with the commission for over a year. Additionally, she has been running the women’s book club, involved in recruitment events and always helping in other areas. She heard about the commission from her daughter who currently serves on another commission. Ms. Lormeus spoke about the role in the commission to become a voice for those in

Councilor Scott thought it would be good for the commission to investigate issues of discrimination. RESULT: APPROVED 208428: Requesting confirmation of the appointment of Crystal Turner to the Commission for Women. Mr. Hosman introduced Ms. Turner who has also been volunteering with the commission for about six months. She has been involved with domestic violence awareness in the community and is very authentic and thorough. Ms. Turner was recruited for this position by her Councilor McLaughlin for Ward 1. This candidate has a strong financial background which is an incredible asset for this commission. She would like to empower the community and wants to design and/or implement a program that would assist women victims of domestic violence who are trying to enter the workforce for the first time. RESULT: APPROVED 208716: Requesting confirmation of the appointment of Larry Yu to the Commission on Energy Use and Climate Change. Mr. Sellers-Garcia introduced Larry Yu to the committee. He has been involved in the residential energy program and solar program. He would be filling a gap on the commission and is a natural fit with his technical and policy knowledge. Mr. Yu has been sitting on the committee for the last one and half years. RESULT: APPROVED 208717: Requesting confirmation of the appointment of Elizabeth Galloway to the Commission on Energy Use and Climate Change. Ms. Galloway has attended past meetings and fills an existing gap. She would be involved with building energy and sustainable construction. RESULT: APPROVED 208538: Requesting confirmation of the appointment of Michael Henson to the Human Rights Commission. Mr. Henson is a very dedicated volunteer and has been involved with immigrant police dialogue. He has an idea for the Somerville High School to come as you are party to show support and encourage others to be who they are. RESULT: APPROVED 208539: Requesting confirmation of the appointment of Fabia Oliveira to the Commission for Women. Ms. Oliveira has been with the commission as a volunteer for 6 months and have been involved with the commission’s outreach program.

Mr. Ferrara would be filling a spot that has been vacant for a while. He has project management and procurement experience. He has served on the YMCA board of directors. The candidate was asked his thoughts on Somerville Housing vs. Section 8 Somerville homes. The candidate showed the committee several of his certificates and licenses. He has lived in Somerville most of his life. This candidate will also participate in the Clarendon Hill redevelopment project. RESULT: APPROVED
