David Fallon Chief of Police RE: Communications sent from City Council Clerk, John Long, pertaining to resolution number 208906. Requesting the licensing commission investigate overserving of alcohol to inebriated customers of liquor stores along East Broadway and proposed solutions to address overserving and littering. To Somerville City Council, The following is a list of possible resolutions taken by myself and members of the Somerville Police Department: • Enforce existing laws and regulations about sales and service (i.e. Speaking to owners of these establishments as well as staff members) • Routinely monitor and report the prevalence, frequency of intoxicated patrons of liquor establishments including all restaurants serving alcohol, as well as retail liquor stores • Increase our compliance checks • Incorporate more officers to watch and enforce alcohol related incidents • Surveillance patrols in area of suspected alcohol related issues • Continue to work with and increase support with Somerville Cares About Prevention • Ensure restaurants and liquor stores routinely clean all around their businesses • Contact Health Department and have residents notify 311 for assistance with trash problems • Noticeable increase in homeless population along East Broadway. Some of these people are drinking in front of these establishments.
