PILOT-questions — File 209479
Questions for the Administration re: Tufts PILOT negotiation, raised by the ORS
Steering Committee:
1. The current assessed value of Tufts property in Somerville and any Somerville
properties owned by its affiliates (e.g., Walnut Hill Properties) and the amount of taxes
that Tufts would owe, if it were required to pay taxes.
2. The number of times that the City’s Police Department was called to the campus in a
recent one-year period, and the approximate cost to the City for those responses.
3. The number of times that the City’s Fire Department was called to the campus in a
recent one-year period, and the approximate cost to the City for those responses.
4. Metrics measuring the level and value of any and all City services other than Police
and Fire Department services were delivered to Tufts students and/or delivered on or in
the immediate surroundings of the Tufts campus, but not billed to Tufts (e.g., water and
sewer, snow removal, parking relief, environmental regulations, etc.)
5. Metrics and a clear description and the unreimbursed value of the services that Tufts
has provided to the City and its residents, including but not limited to access to classes,
scholarships, and other campus resources; instructional and experiential learning
opportunities for Somerville schoolchildren; and services provided to Somerville non-
profits and City government offices.
6. Up-to-date information about the numbers of undergraduate and graduate students
living in Somerville apartments, including apartments owned by entities affiliated with
Tufts (e.g., Walnut Hill Properties), and the number of apartments those students
occupy.
