The new synthetic turf field and the drainage imporvements at Dilboy Stadium will require additional and regular care and maintenance
by the Parks and Recreation Field Operations staff, and the DPW.
Dilboy Stadium - Design and Construction
Recent studies document that recreational programming needs for the City's youth are unmet because of a critical shortage of large
recreation fields, and the Dilboy Stadium Field is the only full size recreation field in the City. As such it provides essential recreation space
for Somerville Youth and community athletes. The existing field is completely worn out, long overdue for replacement, and is unsafe for
users.
Replacemenmt of the existing synthetic turf field and running track inside Dilboy Stadium. Layout will be similar to the existing.
Improvents will include organic infill at the synthetic turf field and drainage system improvements to protect Alewife Brook. A contract for
design services is in place now and that firm has provided the construction estimate included below.
Parks and Recreation & PSUF
The need for additional quality recreation fields for Somerville youth is well documented and included in the 2016 Fields Master Plan. The
stadium and the auxillary field renovation are included in the CIP.
