ALIGNMENT WITH FY21 COMMUNITY PRESERVATION PLAN
The Broadway Winter Hill Congregational Church is home to Hearts of Life a non‐profit that helps those
in need both locally and those abroad, operates a food pantry, music school and education center for
immigrants to learn English and computer skills.
FUNDING CONDITIONS
1. Execution and recording of a perpetual historic preservation restriction that would be held by
the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission.
2. The Broadway Winter Hill Congregational Church will post a permanent sign noting CPA funding
for the restoration of the bell tower.
3. The Broadway Winter Hill Congregational Church must satisfy the requirements of the
Somerville Historic Commission advisory review process.
4. The slate roof surfaces must be replaced with real slates not synthetic slates.
5. CPA funds will only go towards costs directly related to the historic exterior improvements.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
The goals of the project are to:
1. Restore the structural soundness to the bell tower and associated slate roof surfaces.
Achievement of these goals will be measured through:
1. Properly restored bell tower and use of real slates to last 150 years.
