Suggested donation of $5 to $15 at the event. The primary organizer will cover the event's initial budget and create a GoFundMe for those who wish to contribute before the event. This contribution will help to offset the costs accrued by the primary organizer. Anything in excess of that initial investment will be reinvested into the community (e.g., to fund a future party/community picnic/etc) or donated to a local charity.   What is your budget for this event: $1500   Social or cultural benefits:  The social benefit is that neighbors will have a chance to spend time with each other and, in some cases, meet for the very first time. Neighborhood children will be able to play with each other under close supervision. Lasting friendships can be made. The cultural benefit is that, by sharing food and volunteering to be a part of the festivities, neighbors can share a part of their unique cultures. In my apartment alone we have people from Germany, Italy, Mexico, and Haiti. As I write this, there is a large Cape Verdean family to my right and a family from El Salvador to my left. There is great diversity in this small area of Pearl Street. We can bring that diversity to the streets and have a great time sharing our respective cultures.   Financial benefits:  Somerville businesses who wish to be involved in this event will receive more than just free advertisement. If the event is as joyful as I hope it will be, it is just the sort of positive memory that can create valuable brand loyalty. It is also a great opportunity to put a friendly face to individual businesses, meet members of the local community, inform them of your business offerings, network, and meet potential collaborators.
