July 11, 2024 Roberta Cameron Community Preservation Act City of Somerville [phone removed] ext. 2528 Re: Extension for FY21 CPA contract SHA4CD, Grace Baptist Church – 59 Cross Street Greetings Roberta, We are writing to request an extension for the CPA FY21 contract, awarded to the Somerville Hispanic Association for Community Development for masonry restoration to the building’s exterior. Due to unforeseen delays, more time is needed to fully complete the project, which is expected by Spring 2025 or sooner. For some background, the current, consolidated construction contract for the three CPA grants and ARPA grant was originally going to be split into multiple general contracts, each with its own general contractor. For example, the elevator pit was going to be installed by a different contractor than the elevator hoist way. It was originally planned that the elevator pit contractor would also accomplish the FY21 masonry work as part of their collected scope. However, the staggering of different grants with different timelines made it very difficult to coordinate with several general contractors, leading to these delays. However, now that all work for all four grants has been consolidated under one contract, the work will be able to proceed immediately as part of the overall accessibility improvement project. In terms of timeline, as mentioned above and subject to permitting and construction schedule, the FY21 masonry work is expected to be complete by Spring 2025 or sooner. Thank you for the consideration in extending this grant contract. Sincerely, Shawn Willett Principal, Architect for Somerville Project [email removed]
