COMMUNITY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION FOR Quincy Street Open Space Renovation PROJECT DESCRIPTION Originally designed and completed in 2010, Quincy Street Park is a vibrant natural space located near the Union Square neighborhood. The passive space includes an accessible walkway with contemplative resting spaces, plantings, and shade. In the current Open Space and Recreation Plan update the park was identified as being in need of improvements to keep it safe and accessible and to improve the pollinator habitat following the recent Pollinator Action Plan. The renovations will address neighbor concerns about the space and incorporate sustainable design features to every extent possible. ELIGIBILITY Open Space/Recreation: This project would rehabilitate land for recreational use. RECOMMENDATION On January 22, 2025 by a vote of 8-0, the Community Preservation Committee recommended to City Council that the City of Somerville OSPCD Division of Public Space and Urban Forestry be awarded $500,000 of Community Preservation Act funds from the Open Space Reserve for the improvement of Quincy Street Park.
