Purpose of the SomerPromise Trust The SomerPromise Trust is established to ensure that each Somerville child who is 0-5 years old or attending the Somerville Public Schools achieves his or her greatest potential, including graduation from high school college-ready. Data on service delivery and input from residents will guide decisions on how to use limited resources to achieve the greatest success. The SomerPromise Trust will provide financial resources to nonprofit organizations and agencies to provide services deemed critical for the success of Somerville children and youth. The Board of the SomerPromise Trust will issue requests for proposals to achieve high priority desired outcomes identified by SomerPromise’s Provider Network. Upon receipt of proposals, the Board will determine which are most likely to effectively and efficiently achieve the stated desired outcomes. The Board will issue grants/contracts to the organizations who submitted those proposals. SomerPromise staff will collect data from the grant/contract recipients and measure the extent to which the desired outcomes were achieved. Funds distributed by the SomerPromise Trust will be used for the following types of services: • Out-of-school programs and services to improve the academic achievement of children at-risk of failing or dropping out of school • Programs and services for Somerville families with children at-risk of failing or dropping out of school to improve their children’s academic achievement • Pre-school programs and services to developmentally, emotionally, cognitively and physically prepare children for academic success upon entering Kindergarten • Surveys and other forms of data collection to better understand the particular obstacles and challenges to the academic success of Somerville low-income and at-risk youth and children • Activities to involve and engage residents in the identification, prioritization, analysis, and elimination of barriers and challenges to the academic success of Somerville at-risk children and youth
