Isaacson SCW Letter of Interest — File 25-1094
Dear Somerville Commission for Women,
I am writing to express my interest in Seat One on the Somerville Commission for Women.
As a young woman living in a progressive town, I am deeply aware of the privileges I hold,
along with the responsibility to use my voice for those who are often silenced. At 22, I’ve
faced challenges that have profoundly shaped my understanding of what it means to
navigate womanhood today—from experiencing violence and instability in my own home to
confronting systemic barriers to bodily autonomy.
Thanks to the resources I’ve been fortunate to access, I now stand in a place of stability
and self-awareness. I’ve experienced firsthand how essential support networks, access to
healthcare, and safe living conditions are in transforming one’s life. These are the
foundations we must build for all women, regardless of background.
The work of the Commission, particularly initiatives like Teens Against Dating Abuse (TADA)
and Domestic Violence Awareness events, resonates deeply with my passion for advocacy.
In college, I was actively involved in community efforts through my service fraternity and
sorority, with a focus on health, education, and empowerment. Though I may not have a
background in government, I bring enthusiasm, event planning experience, and a deep
commitment to social justice.
It would be an honor to contribute to the Commission’s work and help further its mission.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Geneva Isaacson
