Dear Ms Speliotis, I am a 78year old resident of Somerville who has come to very much appreciate this rather unique city in our 26 years of residency. For much of my professional life, I taught high school history in the parochial system. Some eight years ago, I retired as a career counsellor at Career Source in Cambridge...one of the state's one -stop career centres. In my youth, I was blessed with a particularly wonderful grandmother who inspired a life- long fondness for, and interest in elders...now I am one! During my years teaching at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, I regularly visited Mary Immaculate Nursing Home with a group of our boys and was asked by the nursing home administration to join an advisory group. Since my retirement, I have benefitted from several of the SCOA services...exercise and yoga classes, and the free taxi service to medical appointments. Though I have a partner and dog and do not live alone, I can very much appreciate the communal value of the many diverse activities sponsored by the SCOA...most recently, the delightful picnic which I attended with several friends.
