CITY OF SOMERVILLE ORDINANCE NO. 2025- IN CITY COUNCIL: ________, 2025 Be it ordained by the City Council, in session assembled, that Section 12-8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Somerville is amended as follows by deleting the struckthrough text and adding the underlined text. Sec. 12-8. – Snow and ice on sidewalks. (a) No A person, including an owner, occupant, tenant, or agent, in charge of any land or a building abutting a sidewalk in the City of Somerville shall may not place snow or ice, or suffer allow it to remain, on an abutting such sidewalk any snow and/or ice for more than six hours between sunrise and sunset on any dayfollowing the conclusion of a weather event, or as otherwise extended by the city in its discretion. The person shall clear the sidewalk to its surface, or treat it with sand or other suitable material where clearing to the surface is impractical, to provide a path of travel with a minimum width of thirty-six inches. All sidewalks shall be cleared to the surface of the sidewalk, or, where it is impractical to do so, the sidewalk shall be treated with sand or other suitable material. Sidewalks shall be cleared to provide a minimum passage of 36 inches. The city may extend the deadlines set forth above in its discretion. (1) An owner, commercial occupant, commercial tenant, or person in charge of land containing a building with exclusively commercial units or a building with ground floor commercial units abutting an accessible curb ramp shall also clear the curb ramp to provide a path of travel with clear and direct access to the crosswalk through the curb ramp in accordance with the standard established in subsection (a).
