City of Somerville Community Preservation Committee COMMUNITY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION FOR 404 Broadway FY26 Phase 1 Exterior Restoration Project Description Vida Real Church, located at 404 Broadway will undertake the first phase of recommendations provided by a historic preservation architect who recently prepared a condition assessment and treatment plan to preserve and restore the building’s exterior envelope in accordance with the Secretary of Interior Standards for Historic Preservation. The focus of this phase will be restoration of doors and stained glass windows which have no religious imagery, identified as the highest priority tasks to protect the structure from deterioration. (The organization is seeking funds from other sources to pay for the restoration of windows with religious imagery.) Eligibility Historic Preservation: This project would preserve and restore a historic building. Recommendation On January 28, 2026 by a vote of 8-0, the Community Preservation Committee recommended approval to City Council that Vida Real be awarded $150,000 of Community Preservation Act funds from the Historic Preservation Reserve for Phase 1 Exterior Restoration, as described in their FY26 Funding Application. Funding Conditions The project will follow the General Conditions outlined in a Grant Agreement between the City and the Grantee. No project-specific conditions apply to this project.
