1.
Department of Racial and Social Justice launched the Public Safety for All Survey in
September 2022, hosting over 15 focus groups to lead the development of overall process.
2.
Survey led to creation of two public task forces and one working group: the Public Safety for
All Task Force (PSFA TF), the Civilian Oversight Task Force (COTF), and the Anti-Violence
Working Group (AVWG).
3.
2.5-year facilitation and recommendation development process led to findings for the
future of public safety initiatives, programming, and operational considerations via three
separate reports in February 2025.

Drawing on more than a year of community engagement and expert
consultation, the Task Force proposed the creation of a Public Safety
Oversight Commission (PSOC), with five basic functions:
1. Community Listening and Support
2. Data Access and Transparency
3. Alternative Dispute Resolution
4. Policy and Practice Improvement
5. Accountability Backstopping

Implement a public education campaign to promote safety for all modes of
transportation.

Coordinate a multi–layered communication system on gun and gang violence.

Engage and connect youth ages 18-26 with existing community programming

Identify ways to proactively educate the youth about domestic violence

Campaign providing information to community on domestic violence
6.
Quarterly meetings with stakeholders to share existing data around domestic
violence
