Resolution - Demo Review — File 26-0834
That the Director of Planning, Preservation and Zoning consider revising the
demolition review cutoff date to 1945, rather than a date relative to the present year.
WHEREAS:
Appreciating that the city's Planning, Preservation and Zoning Division is
currently working on a review of the city's policies around building
preservation and review of demolition plans; and
WHEREAS:
Appreciating that ordinances were passed in the 1990s and 2010s which
set windows for building demolition review that, at the time of passing,
required review of buildings built before approximately 1945; and
WHEREAS:
Acknowledging that, because this cutoff was set to a number of years
before the present date, the year of cutoff currently advances each year,
coming to include buildings that were not subject to review when these
ordinances were originally passed; and
WHEREAS:
Appreciating that this moving window of time was a factor in pushing the
Council, in the past, to revise the cutoff date, to move it back into the
1940s; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED:
That this Council proposes that, in their review, and with the advice and
consent of all appropriate parties, the Planning, Preservation and Zoning
Division consider changing the cutoff date explicitly to 1945, rather than a
number of years (currently, 75) before the present year.
