Resolution in Support of H.3587 and S.2334: An Act to Grow and Maintain Space in Cities and Towns for the Creative Economy WHEREAS: H.3587 and S.2334 would authorize municipalities to establish, by local option, a Municipal Creative Space Trust Fund empowered to acquire, hold, and convey property for the creation and preservation of space dedicated to the making and presentation of art, culture, and creative expression, and to receive and deploy contributions, grants, and zoning exaction funds for that purpose; and WHEREAS: Such a trust would provide Somerville with a powerful municipal tool to preserve affordable creative space in the face of development pressure; and WHEREAS: Such a trust would provide Somerville with a powerful municipal tool to preserve affordable creative space in the face of development pressure; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Somerville City Council expresses its support for H.3587 and S.2334, An Act to Grow and Maintain Space in Cities and Towns for the Creative Economy, and urges the Massachusetts Legislature to enact said legislation; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the chair of the Ways and Means Committee, and the members of Somerville's state legislative delegation.
