CPC Funding Rec Brown Schoolyard FY24 Off-cycle — File 23-1201

        COMMUNITY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION FOR   Brown Schoolyard FY24 Construction    PROJECT DESCRIPTION   The City of Somerville Public Space and Urban Forestry Division (PSUF) is seeking additional funding  for construction for the renovation of the Brown Schoolyard. This project will expand the budget  available to construct the improvements envisioned in a design funded through a previous CPA grant.  The CPA funds will cover the cost of unforeseen subsurface issues identified during the construction of  the Brown Schoolyard. A renovated schoolyard will provide safe and accessible open space and  recreational environments for the Brown School and the Community.   ELIGIBILITY  OpenSpace/Recreational Land: This project would rehabilitate recreational land and provide new  amenities. CPA funds will not be used for site preparation or installation of artificial turf.  RECOMMENDATION  On July 26, 2023 by a vote of 7‐0, the Community Preservation Committee recommended approval to  City Council that PSUF be awarded $97,000 of Community Preservation Act funds for construction of  the improvements to the Brown Schoolyard, as described in their application from the following  account:     Category:  Open Space/Recreation  Recommended Funding Source  Amount  Henry Hansen Park FY24 Construction  Open Space Reserve  $97,000  Total  $97,000    FUNDING CONDITIONS  1. The CPA‐funded portion of the project must be initiated within three years unless extension is  granted by the CPC.   2. CPA funds will be used only for CPA eligible expenses.  3. The City of Somerville will install a permanent sign noting CPA funding at the completion of the  project and a temporary sign during construction.  4.
