Programs/Services/Activities Funded
The Vaccine Revolving Fund is used to provide the costs of all clinical and administrative resources
needed to offer a range of vaccinations to City of Somerville community members. All vaccines
(privately purchased and state supplied) offer reimbursements for either both or one of the following
health insurance claim fees: cost of the vaccine and administration fee. Our third-party biller, UMass
Medical School (Commonwealth Medicine), provides the claim billing service, at cost, to collect the
health insurance reimbursements. The fund also offers the opportunity to provide vaccination services
to those uninsured or under-insured by off-setting the costs incurred with the reimbursements received
from private insurance companies.
The following activities and services can be funded with a Vaccine Revolving Fund:
•
Clinical supplies (needles, syringes, sharps containers, band-aids, Epi-Pens, etc.)
•
Administrative support and supplies (technology, printing/communication, staffing, interpreters,
software)
•
Expand vaccines available through HHS department (shingles, Tdap, Hep B, etc.) in addition
to the more routine seasonal influenza and covid vaccines.
