COMMUNITY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION FOR
Just A Start 24 Webster Ave Historic Window Restoration
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Just A Start requests funding for the preservation of a large Turkish‐style window and full Colonial
Revival surround at 24 Webster Avenue. The project will be a new all affordable multifamily building in
the Union Square neighborhood. Just A Start is requesting funding from CPA just for the removal,
restoration, and reinstallation of the window and surround as specified in a Memorandum of
Understanding with the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission. The project is also receiving
financial support from the Somerville Affordable Housing Trust, the Somerville HOME Program, and is
pursuing funding from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities
(EOHLC).
ELIGIBILITY
Historic Resources: This project would preserve a historic architectural artifact.
RECOMMENDATION
On September 27, 2023 by a vote of 8‐0, the Community Preservation Committee recommended
approval to City Council that Just a Start be awarded $113,440 of Community Preservation Act funds for
restoration and reinstallation of the historic window at 24 Webster Ave, as described in their FY24
funding application from the following account:

FUNDING CONDITIONS
1. The CPA‐funded portion of the project must be initiated within three years unless extension is
granted by the CPC.
2. CPA funds will be used only for CPA eligible expenses.
3. Just A Start will install a permanent sign noting CPA funding at the completion of the project
and a temporary sign during construction.
4. Unspent funds will be returned to the CPA fund.
