I have been wanting to volunteer my time for a Somerville City Committee for awhile. I applied for but was not selected for the PTAC (was interviewed) and the Native Pollinator committee (not interviewed). After interviewing with PTAC, I realized, I was probably better suited for SBAC given my dominant transportation choice is bike over walking and transit. Please describe any relevant experiences. This could include employment responsibilities, volunteer work, club leadership, community organizing, or personal transit/biking/pedestrian enthusiasm. 9. I am a busy, full time employed parent of a 6th grader. I have been wanting to find an organization with which I could make a commitment to volunteer. I think SBAC would be a good fit for my schedule and interests. Since moving to Somerville in 2014, I have been a 100%, year-round bike commuter, transport cyclist, including toting my child since he was a toddler along with me. I still carry him around town on my electric cargo bike, often toting the kid, his karate bag, his saxophone and both our bags. No need for a car for all that. At present, my child is allowed to walk and take the bus alone, but I won't let him bike many places without an adult present. I would like to see a Somerville where I feel comfortable letting my 6th grader ride his bike anywhere around town alone. That is why I am interested in volunteering for SBAC.
