LEGAL Somerville Police Department, Somerville MA EXPERIENCE: Acting Deputy Chief May 2024 – Present  Assigned as Operations Deputy overseeing Patrol Operations, the COHR Unit, Community Engagement Unit, Special operations, the Special Response Team and Animal Control. Captain/Patrol Operations July 2016 – May 2024  Responsible for all personnel assigned to the Patrol Division which is further divided into six (6) unique reporting blocks. The patrol division consists of five (5) Lieutenants, nine (9) Sergeants and fifty-one (51) patrol officers.  Reviewed and executed any discipline for all personnel under the command of the Patrol Captain that doesn’t rise to the level of an internal investigation.  Monitored attendance for personnel under the command of the Patrol Captain to ensure proper staffing and that attendance is in compliance with collective bargaining agreements.  Assigned officers to address issues, concerns and crime trends identified by the Crime Analysis Unit and the above mentioned report review.  Maintained an open and direct line of communication with City Counselors and promptly responded to issues communicated to them by their constituents.  Attended all community meetings to ensure that the needs and concerns of Somerville residents are addressed by the Somerville Police or rerouted to the correct city agency that can address those concerns.  Liaison to Tufts University. Actively participated in the planning of all University activities that impacted the safety and general wellbeing of the surrounding Somerville community.  Delegated firearms licensing authority for the City of Somerville. Captain/Chief of Detectives July 2015 – July 2016  Direct all criminal investigations undertaken by the Somerville Police Department to ensure compliance with internal police and relevant law.  Reviewed all written reports for content and completeness.  Ensured that the Criminal Investigative Unit is properly staffed and trained.  Assigned investigations to individual detectives based on case-load, ability and experience.

Captain/Administrative Services September 2013 – July 2015  Supervised all E-911 personnel, including scheduling, training and coordination with other units within the Somerville Police Department.  Had oversight of the Animal Control Unit and issues that arose under their enforcement authority.  Actively managed internal civilian motor vehicle mechanics and assisted in the purchase of new police vehicles.  Partnered with other city departments to ensure proper maintenance and up keep of the Somerville Police Headquarters and its facilities. Lieutenant/Patrol Division Commander February 2011 - Present  Departmental in-service training instructor for criminal law and procedure.  In the absence of the Executive Staff, assumed the position of ranking officer within the police department.  Directly supervised a patrol division, consisting of one (1) sergeant, eleven (11) patrol officers, two (2) detectives, two (2) traffic officers and four (4) E-911 dispatchers.  Monitored all E-911 calls and required police responses.  Assumed responsibility for the care and custody of all detainees.  Reviewed all reports submitted by officers under my command for quality and content. Lieutenant/Detective Bureau January 2010 – February 2011  Assumed total supervisory control of investigative personnel and assignments in the absence of the Captain in charge of the Criminal Investigations Division.  Conducted two prolonged investigations of officer involved shootings in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police.  Maintained a small case-load of unique or sensitive cases. Sergeant Gang/Anti-Crime Unit January 2009 – January 2010  Supervised dedicated unit charged with intelligence gathering and gang investigations.  Expanded the role of the existing Gang Unit to include a proactive, anti-crime focus.  Assisted in updating departmental policies in preparation for state accreditation.  Planned and forecasted the distribution of monies from the Charles Shannon, Anti-Gang Grant. Sergeant/Patrol Supervisor October 2007 – January 2009  Responsible for supervision of all uniformed officers assigned to the day patrol division.  Filled vacancy as the Patrol Division Commanding Officer in the Lieutenant’s absence.
