Support for the Immigrants in Our Community City of Somerville Proclamation Whereas: We recognize that federal immigration reform is needed, but we believe immigrants to this country are being unfairly disparaged and pushed to society’s margins by certain elements of the body politic and the media. Whereas: Immigrants provide immense value and indispensable vitality to our communities. Whereas: Immigrants embody the hope and initiative that is fundamental the American Character. Whereas: The positive qualities of our immigrant population must be remembered and respected as this nation undertakes immigration reform. Whereas: We are a nation of immigrants and it is essential to the future prosperity of this nation that we continue to be a nation of immigrants. NOW THEREFORE I, Joseph A. Curtatone, Mayor of the City of Somerville, do hereby proclaim our support for the immigrants in this community, throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and throughout the nation.
