2010-189019 - That the Commissioner of Public Works Attend the Next Public Utilities &
Works Committee Meeting to Discuss Various Items, Especially Double Poles.:
There are currently 201 double poles in the city with 55 of these ready to be removed. Mr.
Zamaperlli told the members that the number of double poles continues to increase due to
various reasons, e.g., upgrades, car accidents etc. Ms. Cummings said that Verizon is ready to
remove 37 poles and that Verizon’s engineers would perform an independent audit of double
poles. Ms. Cummings told the members that she is serious about keeping her commitment and
will have a precise plan put together in order to meet with NSTAR effectively. Mr. Bates
informed the members that RCN has 7 double poles remaining and that NSTAR actually
performs the removal of RCN,s double poles. Alderman White suggested that Mr. MacEachern
request that Comcast submit a written report on their 25 double poles and Chairman O’Donovan
wants to make sure Comcast is at the next meeting. The committee will meet on August 25th to
follow up on this issue and Chairman O’Donovan requested that updated lists be provided to the
committee one day prior to that meeting.
Motion: by Chairman O’Donovan that the Commissioner of Public Works review the list of double poles
and determine how many new double poles are being installed.
