RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 189019 - That the Commissioner of Public Works Attend the Next Public Utilities and Public Works Subcommittee to Discuss Any and All Business, Especially the Issue of Double Poles.: Commissioner Koty informed the members that since July 6th, NSTAR has removed 34 double poles, leaving 114 still to be removed. Of that number, the cable companies have a combined total of 33 poles, which are being removed in a steady fashion. NSTAR is in the process of removing 10 poles. Commissioner Koty pointed out that NSTAR cannon remove a pole until all utility/cable companies have transferred their equipment to the new pole. Verizon is holding up the removal process by leaving their equipment on the old poles. The Commissioner suggested bringing the problem to the attention of Peter Bowman of Verizon, noting that Verizon’s cooperation level is low when pressure is not applied by the city. The committee requested that a communication be sent to Verizon stressing the importance of resolving this issue and expressing its displeasure that a Verizon representative was not present at this meeting, after having been notified to attend.
