1 Charles Femino   Chief of Police          Jul 13, 2022      Honorable City Council Members       RE:   Agenda Item 213857 (Jul 12, 2022 Finance Committee Meeting) – Requesting  acceptance of, and approval to expend, a $75,000 grant with no new match required, from  the Boston Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management to the Police Department for Special  Response Team expenditures and overtime      Dear Council Members:    Please accept this communication as an official response to Councilor Scott and Councilor  Wilson’s information request regarding Agenda Item 213857.     Councilor Scott –   List of authorized equipment  o SPD is providing the attached list of allowable equipment categories at the  request of Councilor Scott.   o However, SPD proposes to use grant funds toward purchasing night vision  goggles and replacement canisters for gas masks already on hand.     Councilor Wilson – What % of SRT members have undergone CIT training?  o Twelve of the fourteen current members of the Somerville Special  Response Team, or 86%, have received CIT training.  o The two remaining members are scheduled to undergo CIT training this  coming fall.        City of Somerville Police Department 220 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 [phone removed] www.somervillepd.com
