Chief Cabral explained that the department has no spare vehicles at the present time and said that the new vehicles could be delivered within 30 days. The Chief said that sand bags have been made available and that a plan has been established to move vehicles out of potential flood areas prior to the start of severe rain. RESULT: APPROVED 189946 - Requesting approval of a transfer of a total of $100,000 of available funds in various Salaries Accounts and the Interest on Notes-BAN Account, for the Flood Costs- Insurance Deductible Account, to fund the deductible for the building insurance policy following the July 10 flood.: Doug Willardson told the members that these funds are being requested to pay the first $100,000 in damages resulting from the July 10, 2010 flood that occurred in the City. Half of the requested amount will come from the money saved by unfilled positions in the budget since July 1, 2010 and the remaining funds will be derived from a lower than expected short term interest

Chairman Heuston requested that a list of the unfilled positions be provided to the Board of Aldermen at the September 7th meeting. RESULT: APPROVED 189947 - Requesting the appropriation of a mitigation payment of $100,000 from IKEA to the Wellington Undercarriage Stabilization Fund, to assist with the Mystic River Reservation Shared Use Path.: Rob May informed the members that this appropriation was secured by the Mayor and will be used to assist in funding the planning, design and construction of the Wellington Undercarriage for the Mystic River Reservation Shared Use Path. There is still some testing that needs to be completed and design work that needs to be done with regard to the method used to support the passage way. RESULT: APPROVED 189950 - Requesting approval of a lease for the Lower Broadway Police Substation at 79-83 Broadway, from 9/1/10 through 8/31/11, for $1,375 per month.: No discussion. RESULT: APPROVED 189951 - Requesting approval for an extension of Contract #08-011, Design Consultants Inc., for the Broadway Streetscape Improvement Project, to October 1, 2013.: Rob May explained that 75% of the design plan has been completed and that the process was slowed by the sewer designing. The contract extension is being sought to complete the design work. The project will be on the 2011 Mass Highway Project list and it is expected that construction will commence next spring. RESULT: APPROVED 189952 - Requesting the acceptance of a citywide Hazardous Substance Assessment Grant of $200,000 from the Environmental Protection Agency for the redevelopment of brownfield sites.: Rob May explained that the funds would be used to assess the redevelopment issues of brownfield sites on city-owned parcels or privately owned parcels that the City is interested in acquiring.

Committee Meeting September 1, 2010 Finance Committee Page 3 of 3 Printed 9/3/2010 RESULT: APPROVED 189953 - Requesting acceptance of a grant of $9,900 by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division to the Police for the Underage Alcohol Enforcement Grant Program.: Chief Cabral told the members that the funds would be used for various alcohol abuse prevention programs, such as Somerville Cares About Prevention and a program at Tufts. Additionally, the funds will enable the Police Department to increase patrols at Tufts and to check liquor establishments for sales to underage individuals. RESULT: APPROVED
