Whereas, Morse-Kelley Playground is a community asset and its preservation and
renovation is a City of Somerville priority; and
Whereas, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, through its
Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (“PARC”) program, has awarded a
$216,000 reimbursable grant (“PARC Grant”) to the City for the renovation of Morse-Kelley
Playground (the “Project”); and
Whereas it is a requirement of the grant that Morse-Kelley Playground be dedicated to
park and recreation purposes under M.G.L. c. 45, §14; and
Whereas, it is also a requirement of the grant that the City appropriate funds for the
entire cost of the Project, specifying the source of the municipal funds;
Now therefore, it is
ORDERED: That the City of Somerville Board of Aldermen hereby accepts the PARC
grant (“Grant”) for Morse-Kelley Playground in the amount of Three Hundred and Eighty-Four
Thousand Dollars ($384,000); dedicates Morse-Kelley Playground to park and recreation
purposes in perpetuity; and appropriates funding in the amount of Six Hundred Thousand Dollars
($600,000) from the Assembly Square Stabilization Fund, for a total project budget of Six
Hundred Thousand Dollars ($600,000), of which $384,000 is reimbursable to the City after the
City initially incurs the costs; and authorizes the Mayor to execute all documents and take all
actions necessary to carry out the terms, purposes, and conditions of the PARC Grant.
