City Solicitor Present M Teresa Cardoso School Committee Present Ellen Schneider OSPCD Present 190058 - That the Director of SPCD Provide This Board with the Latest Revision to the City’s Rodent Control Policies before the Next Meeting of the Committee on Public Health and Public Safety, and appear with Appropriate Designees at Said Meeting.: RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 190956 - That the Director of SPCD and the Director of Health update this Board on the public awareness campaign to address rodent control, and describe specific problem areas and plans to address rodent control in those areas.: Ms. Schneider told the members how the city is getting the word out to the public regarding the rodent problem and the committee suggested information be sent to residents before the next tax bills are sent. Door hangers are scheduled to go out on May 1st. There was a discussion about the possibility of requiring homeowners to bait property where rodent infestation is observed and to fine owners who create a rodent problem on their property. Chairman White asked Asst. City Solicitor Shapiro to draft a proposed ordinance giving the City authority to require owners to bait their property and to take other corrective measures in areas where the City determines that there is a rodent problem. Chairman White suggested utilizing the CTY system to contact resident in

Chairman White requested that OSPCD prepare a resolution requesting the MBTA’s assistance in dealing with rodents. Alderman Heuston’s motion that the rodent information door knockers go out to the Lincoln Park neighborhood as soon as possible and no later than May 1, 2011, was approved. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 190957 - That the City Solicitor and the Director of SPCD (ISD) provide recommendations for the abandoned property at 47 Harrison Street, and advise this Board on actions the city can take to address safety and health issues as well as taxes and fees owed the city.: The city is pursuing a receivership with the Attorney General's Office and will serve a demand letter, giving the owner 10 days to respond. RESULT: KEPT IN COMMITTEE 190999 - That this Board’s Committee on Public Health and Public Safety once again address the safety of the abandoned building at 82 Pearson Avenue, which remains in disrepair.: The owner of the property is attempting to secure a short sale of the property and the city will pursue a receivership. Bank of America will be boarding up the property and the committee discussed imposing fines for each day that the property is not secured. Alderman Connolly’s motion that the City Treasurer levy all appropriate fines against the property located at 82 Pearson Avenue, was approved. Alderman Connolly’s motion that the Executive Director of the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (ISD) consult with the City Solicitor regarding the city's ability to enter upon a property for the purpose of boarding it up and securing it, was approved. Alderman Connolly’s motion that the Executive Director of the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (ISD) board up properties and charge the property owner(s) for it if possible, was approved. Alderman Connolly’s motion that the City Solicitor notify the current mortgage holder for the property located at 82 Pearson Avenue, of the receivership action filed by the city, was approved.
