From: Frank Senesi To: Edward Bean; Omar Boukili Subject: Veterans supplemental request Date: Friday, May 20, 2011 10:52:34 AM May 20, 2011  Dear Mayor Joseph Curtatone,   I respectfully request your approval of the transfer of a supplemental budget increase of available funds in the amount of $10,000 to the Veterans Services Benefit amount #4801-57700.  As always, the city is reimbursed from the state, 75% for all benefits expended.   Due to a policy change from the State Department of Veterans' Services allowing peacetime veterans to be aided, we have received an influx of veterans that are now eligible for benefits under MGL chapter 115.  We have and are still assisting veterans returning from the war in Iraq and other countries overseas.  We continue to assist a large number of elderly veterans /dependents who are having great difficulty keeping up with the increasing medical and prescription costs.  With the current fiscal crisis of the economy, our caseload has increased since last year.   Since our request in March of 2011, for an additional $25,000, we have already picked up 5 new cases which has increased our benefit expenditures for an additional $7,040. some of which are medical reimbursements in addition to ordinary benefits and one expenditure for an indigent veteran burial of $2,000.  Barring no additional new cases, the request of $10,000 should cover our expenses until July, 2011.   If there any further questions, Elizabeth Craverio and the Veterans' Department have a monthly expenditure report  detailing everything. Sincerely, Frank P. Senesi
