Their findings assist the Planning Department in evaluating open spaces and can provide an additional source of information for community meetings where park design is discussed. Members of the Groundwork Somerville Green Team spoke about the various parks and playgrounds in the city and suggested that many of them could benefit by improving their green spaces. Other suggestions offered included security improvements, better signage, the addition of benches and picnic areas, artwork and increased flowers/greenery. All parties were in agreement that there should be neighborhood involvement in the planning or renovation of the city’s park areas. Chairman Heuston’s motion that the Executive Director of the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development include the Groundwork Somerville Green Team in the design process of the city’s parks in the future, with compensation being associated for their work, with the understanding that each party reserves the right to participate, or not, on each individual project; AND BE IT FURTHER ORDERED That the Board of Aldermen and its Committee on Parks and Open Space be advised of each new project. 189934 - That the Director of SPCD (ISD) provide this Board with the rationale for the $18 fee for each $1000 in construction cost for installing a green roof on a home, which may serve as a disincentive for residents to install green roofs.:
