Community Connections- This is a collaborative program between the Somerville Police Department (Neighborhood Police Officers) and the Somerville Community Youth Program. Seventh and eighth grade students from the Healey School meet weekly at the program and cover such topics as physical fitness, safe relationships, community issues, healthy eating options, and safety concerns. We have also taken the youth on field trips and to local parks and playgrounds for sports activities. Somerville Community Explorations-This is a collaborative program between the Somerville Health Department (Patty Contente) and the Somerville Community Youth Program. This program is offered as a community service and education model to seventh and eighth grade girls. These youth have assisted with sorting toy orders for the “Toys for Local Children” drive, worked on an inter-generational project with the Council on Aging, and Summer Jobs Program- We had 200+ applicants this year.
